The Bishop's Appeal is the annual giving campaign of the Diocese of Oakland. Annual appeals support current operations and among the every-day expense of our Diocese is giving back to members of our Catholic community through the programs listed above. The East Bay is ethnically and economically diverse. Through support of the Diocese, parishes that enjoy an abundance of God's material blessings may share what they have with neighboring in poorer parishes.
The Diocese itself can actually be seen as the largest single donor to the Appeal. Since total Diocesan Contributions to the four program areas is around $3.5million, income from other sources must be used to close the gap. By not just meeting, but significantly exceeding the campaign's $2.1 million goal, East Bay Catholics can help these important programs flourish and grow.
There are many services the Diocese provides to all Catholics
that would be difficult for even the most prosperous parishes
to undertake on their own. This includes support for our schools,
youth programs, cultivating vocations and care for our retired
clergy.
Building God’s Kingdom:
The Campaign for Catholic Parishes and Schools
When the $2.1 million goal of the Bishop’s Appeal is achieved, we insure that the following programs will receive that level of funding and more. The Diocese and others will contribute additional funds beyond what is raised by the Bishop’s Appeal. Programs are listed in order of levels of support provided by the Diocese. Actual proportions and amounts will depend on the success of the Appeal, changing needs, and levels of other sources of Diocesan and program income.
